Record number of license renewals for academic use of Simcyp

Simcyp News RSS

Date: 03 Sep 2010

Simcyp is pleased to report a large increase in the number of academic, regulatory and not-for profit institutions taking up and renewing license agreements with Simcyp for the 2010-2011 academic year.

The Simcyp Population-based Simulator is now used for teaching and/or research in over fifty centres of excellence in drug development research.

Simcyp is committed to high quality R&D and recognises that it is essential that the world’s leading academic institutes have access to the same advanced tools that are used by the industry. In addition, it is imperative that the next generation of industry researchers is appropriately trained in the use of modern modelling and simulation techniques. Academic license agreements differ from Consortium member contracts to reflect the not-for-profit nature of the research which makes them more accessible to scientists on non-commercial budgets.

This year, academic users have also been competing for the Simcyp Academic Awards which recognise innovative teaching methods and cutting-edge published research in the fields of in vitro – in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE), ADME, pharmaceutics, and modelling and simulation. The winners of the 2010 awards will be announced at the upcoming Consortium Meeting.

The winner of the ‘Most Informative Scientific Report’ award will receive a bursary towards attendance at a scientific meeting or a sabbatical at Simcyp to work with our scientists on projects of mutual interest.

The ‘Most Innovative Teaching Application’ award also carries a monetary prize which can either be used for computer hardware/software or towards a sabbatical at Simcyp.
