Date: 10 Sep 2008

An article, published in the European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, provides an overview of a recent conference hosted by the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS) and BioSim, the major European network of excellence on systems biology. The purpose of the meeting was to promote the 'Integration of Systems Approaches into Pharmaceutical Sciences' with a view to optimising the development of new effective drugs. The meeting took place in December 2007 and was attended by 75 industrial and 45 academic participants in addition to representatives from the European Regulatory Agencies and the FDA.

The paper, by Westerhoff et al., outlines the key points presented by each invited speaker. Simcyp’s director of Research and Development, Professor Amin Rostami, co-presented with Steffen Thirstrup of the Danish Medicines Agency. Their talk was entitled, ‘Co-morbidity affecting PK: regulators’ requests and what’s available from modelling.’
