The Simcyp Team
Simcyp has a strong team of specialists with extensive experience in drug metabolism, drug absorption, QSAR, PK-PD modelling, paediatric pharmacology, pharmacogenetics and epidemiology. Software development at Simcyp is co-ordinated and carried out in-house by a dedicated, expert software team.
The Simcyp Science Team is led by the co-founders of the company, Emeritus Professor Geoff Tucker (Chairman of Simcyp Limited) and Professor Amin Rostami-Hodjegan (Professor of Systems Pharmacology at the University of Manchester, and Director of Scientific Research & Development at Simcyp Limited). Aspects of business development are managed by Mr John Evans (Managing Director) and Dr Steve Toon (Executive Director).
As a result of the pioneering work of Simcyp in predicting population variability in whole body pharmacokinetics and drug-drug interactions, Professor Geoff Tucker and Professor Amin Rostami-Hodjegan were jointly awarded the New Safer Medicines Faster Award by the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS) in 2004.
As Simcyp is a forward-moving, expanding company we are always looking for talented individuals to further strengthen our team. If you are interested in joining the Simcyp team please see our careers section.
Director's Profiles

Chairman
Geoff is Emeritus Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Sheffield, UK. He graduated in pharmacy (1964) with a Ph.D (1967) from the University of London. He was at the Virginia Mason Research Center (Seattle) and the Anesthesia Research Center, University of Washington (1968-72), before returning to the UK in 1972. He has published widely in the areas of pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, pharmacogenetics, and the pharmacology of drugs used in anaesthesia. (‘Highly Cited Author’ – Pharmacology; Institute of Scientific Information). He was Chairman of the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology from 1995-2002. He is an Expert Advisor to the Commission on Human Medicines UK; a Vice-President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP); advisor to the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS); a Councillor of the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics (ISSX); and Founding Member and Elder of the African Society for Drug Metabolism and Development. Geoff has been a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Harvard, Cincinnati and Otago and at the US FDA. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians UK, the British Pharmacological Society, the British Toxicological Society and the American College of Clinical Pharmacology.
Amin Rostami PharmD, Ph.D., FCP
Director of Scientific Research & Development
Amin is a Professor of Systems Pharmacology at the Centre for Applied Pharmacokinetic Research in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Manchester, UK.
At Simcyp, Amin leads a team of 25 scientists working on extrapolation of in vitro data on drug metabolism to predict in vivo pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in virtual patient populations. Amin has been the author/co-author of over 95 peer-reviewed full articles. He has been the elected Scientific Secretary of PKUK (the UK discussion group on pharmacokinetics) since 1998, is currently on the EUFEPS Committee on Industrial Research Relations, the Drug Metabolism Committee of IUPHAR and was formally an elected member of the EUFEPS Council. Amin also serves on the editorial boards of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Biopharmaceutics and Drug Disposition, Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics, Current Drug Metabolism and Xenobiotica. He has been an invited speaker at over 70 national and international meetings and he regularly leads Simcyp's hands-on workshops on the concepts and applications of predicting ADME, pharmacokinetics and population variability.
Amin received his Pharm.D. from Tabriz Medical Sciences University in 1987, and his Ph.D from the University of Sheffield in 1996. He was a Research Assistant to Professor Geoff Tucker before progressing to Lecturer (1997), Senior Lecturer (2002), Reader (2005) and Professor (2008) at Sheffield. John Evans B.Sc
Managing Director
John graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in Engineering. Initially he worked in project management at an international precious metal processing organisation, followed by 11 years in a £multi-million technology company, part of a major plc, in various posts including that of Director for Design and Projects, Operations Director and Director for the Process Engineering Division. He later became Managing Director of a number of businesses with varying products, services and technology. He joined Simcyp in February 2001.
Steve Toon, BPharm, PhD, MRPharmS
